Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do before bringing my car in?

For new cars, we recommend avoiding car washes altogether - it's best if the vehicle comes to us still with its factory protective films intact. This allows us to complete the work faster and at a significantly lower cost, while also making our job much easier.

What changes after ceramic coating?

Your car's treated surfaces receive a chemically resistant protective layer that:

  • Prevents bug residue from etching into the paint

  • Protects against bird dropping damage

  • Shields against harsh wash chemicals

  • Makes cleaning significantly easier and less frequent

  • Allows gentler washing methods

While the coating simplifies maintenance, it's not meant for years of pressure-washing only - we recommend a thorough hand wash every 1-2 months.

Do ceramic coatings really prevent swirl marks?

Generally yes, but they don't replace proper washing techniques. These coatings (whether called ceramic, quartz or glass) all use silicon dioxide technology.

The coating's hardness alone doesn't completely prevent micro-scratches, though it helps. At 3-4 microns thick, it won't stop deep scratches like keying, but it sacrifices itself to protect the clear coat.

Does it protect against stone chips?

No. While paint is 90-120 microns thick and still chips, ceramic coatings at 3-5 microns provide no meaningful impact protection. The real solution is 200-micron paint protection film (PPF) with ceramic coating on top for chemical resistance.

What makes ServFaces ceramic coatings superior to other protections?

The key differences lie in durability, resistance, and warranty. While conventional waxes last about 1 month, synthetic waxes (including so-called "ceramic waxes") protect for 3-6 months, and nano coatings last 6-12 months even with perfect preparation, our ServFaces ceramic coatings offer 36 months of protection - with our studio-backed warranty, not just manufacturer promises.

How can you tell what was applied to your car?

Some detailers use deliberately confusing product names. Tube/tin products - no matter how premium they look - require reapplication every 6 months. Liquid products with strong odors are typically nano coatings or (rarely) ceramic coatings. ServFaces Coat Ultima contains one of the highest active ingredient concentrations on the market.

Why does our service cost more?

We maintain strict requirements for both ceramic coating and PPF installation:

  • Flawless surface condition

  • Oil-free, contaminant-free base

  • Climate-controlled application area

  • Fresh applicators/microfiber

  • Premium-grade materials

  • Expert hands for streak-free results

  • Proper 18-24hr curing

  • Infrared lamp acceleration

My car is wrapped / I want to get my car wrapped.

Even after applying paint protection film (PPF) or wrap film to your car, we still recommend ceramic coating the film surface. This provides crucial benefits: chemical protection, easier cleaning, reduced orange-peel texture, and enhanced gloss (for shiny films). Films are chemically vulnerable - bugs stain them immediately, bird droppings etch quickly, and they're notoriously difficult to clean without protection.

How should I care for my coated car?

No special methods are needed, though we advise avoiding:

  • Automatic car washes

  • Hand washes using silicone squeegees or chamois leather

Why "only" a 3-year warranty?

The coating often lasts beyond 3 years with proper maintenance. However, average use and washing techniques typically cause enough micro-scratches to warrant paint correction around this time - which requires coating removal. This applies especially to high-mileage vehicles, though not all cars will need it!

What happens when the coating wears out?

The coating gradually wears away from the surface over time - it doesn't disappear suddenly. You won't experience peeling, cracking, spotting or oxidation since this isn't a paint layer but rather a chemically-bonded protective coating. Any such defects would indicate underlying paint issues, not coating failure.

Does it void my factory paint warranty?

No! Ceramic coating counts as paint maintenance and doesn't compromise paint integrity, so your manufacturer's warranty remains valid.

Can I apply ceramic coating myself?

Unfortunately no - proper application requires:

  1. Extensive surface preparation needing expertise

  2. Dust/oil-free environment

  3. Climate-controlled curing space

  4. Professional-grade products unavailable to consumers

DIY coatings typically underperform because true professional-grade materials are only available to certified detailers.
